Business Driver – Cisco Systems Umbrella*

Security requirements often conflict with business drivers for businesses who must harness the power of the Cloud and improve client deliverables to remain competitive or increase their leadership position. This increase of “surface area” provided by service expansion also challenges IT personnel who must secure the increased IT landscape, typically with the same budget and headcount. What is required is an “overseer” that inspects, reviews, automates and protects.

Value Proposition: Cisco Umbrella

Cisco’s Umbrella consolidates multiple tasks and functions under a single management layer. By unifying management across a number of functional roles, Umbrella reduces management overhead, proactively bolsters security safeguards and protects your network infrastructure from DNS through to the Cloud. Most importantly, Cisco’s Umbrella provides real-time visibility of your Firewall, Secure Web Gateway, DNS Security safeguards, Cloud Access Security Broker and provides Threat Intelligence from Cisco’s security analysis platform, Talos Intelligence Group.

Product Overview: Cisco Umbrella

Cisco’s Umbrella harnesses the power of Cisco’s broad expertise in networking and security to provide added layers of protection across the Enterprise.

Key Cisco Umbrella product deliverables include;

DNS -Layer Security

Umbrella’s DNS-layer security helps improve security visibility, detect compromised systems, and protects your users by stopping threats over any port or protocol before they reach your network or endpoints.

Secure Web Gateway

Umbrella’s secure web gateway monitors and inspects web traffic increasing network visibility. It also offers URL and application controls and improves protection against malware. Secure Web gateway permits administrators to use IPsec tunnels, PAC files, or proxy chaining to forward traffic to Cisco’s cloud-based proxy to enforce acceptable use policies and block advanced threats.

Firewall

Umbrella’s firewall logs all activity and blocks unwanted traffic using IP address, port blocking, and protocol rules. To forward traffic, administrators can easily configure an IPsec tunnel from any network device. As new tunnels are created, security policies are automatically applied to simplify setup and ensure consistent policy enforcement across the Enterprise.

Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)

Umbrella exposes shadow IT by providing the ability to detect and report on cloud applications in use across your Enterprise. CASB provides granular details on the application vendor, software category, and activity volume to better manage cloud adoption and reduce security risks.

Interactive Threat Intelligence

By harnessing the real-time resources of Cisco’s TALOS threat intelligence platform, administrators gain greater insights into malicious domains, rogue IPs, and URLs. Available via a console and API, Umbrella Investigate provides real-time context on malware, phishing, botnets, trojans and other threats enabling rapid incident investigation and response.

Integration with SD-WAN

The Umbrella integrates easily with Cisco’s SD-WAN deployments across your network for powerful Cloud security and protection against internet threats. Cisco’s integrated approach secures Cloud access and efficiently protects your branch users, connected devices, and application usage from all direct internet access network breakout POP’s.
